Remy Sansanwal believes that effective criminal defence begins with understanding both the case and the person behind it. Every client comes to court with different circumstances, priorities, and concerns. Remy combines thorough preparation with strategic and determined advocacy, while ensuring his clients understand their options and have a meaningful voice in the decisions that affect their case and their future.

Remy Sansanwal

Remy Sansanwal is a criminal defence lawyer in Toronto whose practice is dedicated exclusively to criminal law. Remy represents clients facing serious criminal charges across Ontario and the Greater Toronto Area, appearing regularly in the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court of Justice. 

 

Prior to founding Sansanwal Law, Remy worked at two well-respected criminal law firms in Toronto, gaining experience on cases ranging from first-degree murder to impaired driving and domestic assault. 

​​Remy graduated cum laude from the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law and also earned an American law degree from Michigan State University College of Law. He also holds a Master of Arts in Political Science from Western University and an Honours Bachelor of Arts with Distinction from the University of Toronto.

In law school, Remy achieved top results in negotiation competitions. At the University of Ottawa, he placed first place in the BLG Negotiation Competition and won second place team in the Walsh Negotiation Competition. He also competed in the Arnup Cup criminal trial moot, served as a Research Fellow with the Refugee Hub, and worked as an Assistant Editor with the Ottawa Law Review. At Michigan State University, Remy worked at the Immigration Law Clinic where he represented vulnerable clients in complex immigration matters.​ He also won several awards, including a prize in Public International Law. 

 

Remy currently serves as the Toronto Recent Call Director on the Board of Directors of the Criminal Lawyers' Association (CLA). Remy is also an active member of the CLA's Membership and Prisons Committees. From 2021-2024, he was an Associate Producer for The Law Garage, a legal education podcast featuring leading voices from the criminal bar.

 

Remy is a member of the Law Society of Ontario, Legal Aid Ontario, Criminal Lawyers' Association, and Toronto Lawyers Association.

Jessica Diep

Administrative Assistant

Jessica joined Sansanwal Law in August 2025 and plays an important role in keeping the firm organized and running smoothly. She assists with the administrative side of criminal files, including managing and organizing disclosure, court documents, scheduling, and other day-to-day file needs. 

Outside of the office, Jessica is an avid foodie with an encyclopedic knowledge of Toronto's restaurant scene.
